“That you may retain your self-respect, it is better to displease people by doing what you know is right, than to temporarily please them by doing what you know is wrong.”

Today’s topic was derived from an encounter I had with a friend of mine the other day. From our conversation she mentioned to me that self-respect to her will only come when she is at a certain point in her life. When she would be having a certain amount of money in her bank account and that time she will consider herself ‘A CLASSY WOMAN’ or as they call it “BOSS LADY.” For her she meant that one cannot attain the level of self-respect without these things. I actually became absolutely tongued tied because this is the same train of thoughts that runs through many of us.

‘I would rather be alone with dignity than in a state that requires me to sacrifice my self-respect’ Not many of us would agree to this because at times situations can get nasty to the level that nothing can compromise. I personally agree that it gets to some point in life that one feels as if they have been pushed to the walls and this is when second thoughts do come to an individual’s mind. This is now where conscience mind is needed before one gets to the point that they will have to lower their dignity thus losing their self-respect.

I came to realize that respect can never be attained if one is not worth being respected. Before anyone respects you, the reciprocity will depend on how you respect yourself. You must have pride and confidence and this can only be achieved by holding a high dignity.

No one might actually question what is morally right. Because clearly that differs from individual to individual. It majorly depends on how “mama” raised you and one’s background, religious beliefs etc. but at the same time the basis are most important.

So no matter what you are going through and what thoughts you have towards yourself, the most important achievement one can have is self-respect.

Have a blessed thanksgiving weekend and remember,
