“Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. “
Extinguishing another man’s candle, does not make your own burn brighter neither does it switch off your own. Many of us fear and have this bad notion that the moment we help others grow, our positions might be overtaken. This happens mostly in our businesses, schools, etc. In life, many don’t understand that the notion actually is quite the contrary. The more candles you light, the clearer you make your own path!
What we forget is that, a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle. We are in a generation where if we pulled others, we would be more advanced than we are. Just because one has a different idea than you have does not mean that he/she is better than you. People should keep in mind that we rise by lifting others. In our offices for example, just because our colleagues put more effort than we do consciously or unconsciously does not necessarily mean that they are trying to overtake us. The only way that a company can succeed is by helping others rise and lighting their candles, by appreciating their effort and work.
The best secret in success is helping others grow. It will not you cost nothing to give a helping hand. This is because the joy comes in when you realize that at least you made someone a better person.
Wouldn’t we be in a better position the moment we help others rise by giving them opportunities and not sitting on them because we are somewhat intimidated by their abilities? Let us try and use our pain and struggle to battle and make others heroes other than making ourselves victims.
Brian Tracy says, successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others, but the unsuccessful are always asking what’s in for me.
The greatest test in life is when you are able to stand up, and help others when you are in your own storm. People might overlook and assume that everything is okay, but surprisingly the more we remember the people we are helping look up to us , the more strong and steadfast we get thus more encouraged we get to help others.
We at responding to life, wish that every single one of us, would try and embrace this virtue of lighting other people’s candles since the more we discover the best in others the more we bring out the best in ourselves. We hope that we will strive to surround ourselves with people who love to see our light shine and would love to make it shine brighter.
