Accept what is, let go of what was, have faith in what will be

“You have to make the decision of letting go of the past, if you want to move forward. Reliving your painful past will poison your heart and your tomorrow. If you look at today with the eyes of the past, you can never see what the present has to offer”

Often the past creeps in at the best moments of our lives to remind us of misery and pain. We constantly feel as if we took a step ahead, only to be drawn two steps back because of the situations we have been through days, months or even years ago. A while back in one of our posts, we talked about the law of karma and how your actions will definitely have an impact on you whether if  it’s in days, months or years to come. However, this is not the kind of past we are talking about.

The past we are addressing involves pain, heartache, disappointment, fear and absolute stress. The kind that you’d rather keep hidden deep inside your heart because the moment it is resurrected it eats up all your peace. This is the past which you shed tears about, the moment it crosses your mind. It could be triggered by a specific person,a situation a place or an item, and most of the time it’s something, somewhere or someone you can’t avoid or live without.

Got it? Good, because it’s about time you let go. The fact that you see no progress or you feel you keep getting setbacks in any aspect of your life, could be as a result of you holding on to your past so dearly without even realising it. Keeping it hidden deep down in your heart does not free you from it. Truth is, it only stays hidden until it’s triggered to resurface. Honestly, it’s easier said than done, but it’s not impossible.

There are two things you have to identify to be able to start the “healing” process.

  1. Identify the cause of pain. You can hide it from the world at large, but you can’t hide it from yourself. Soul-searching is important and you also have to realise that nobody else can do it, apart from yourself.
  2. You need to identify the item, person or the place that triggers, the above (if you’re lucky, it’s usually the same)

Once you identify the 2 points, you need to either make peace with it / them, or let go. For the majority, it’s either someone who broke our hearts and who we need to forgive. This could be your father, mother, sibling, lover, friend or anyone who you truly loved (still love) and cared for. For others it’s maybe a location that reminds you of a certain situation such as death, hurt, a scary situation and for the rest, it could be an item that takes you back to a moment in life where you were not in such a good position in life.

Whatever it may be, you are the one in pain, you are the one hurting only because you carry a load so heavy that it weighs you down from time to time. It’s about time you let go, it’s about time you made peace with your past and move forward. There’s tripping in life, but how you pick up yourself from the dust is what matters. Progress comes with focus, and for you to achieve that ascendency focus, surround yourself with positivity which comes at a price, by getting rid of your pain.Just don’t forget-What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, Respond to it and learn.

Throw away anything that brings negative memories in your life. Accept those who are gone, and keep living, thanking God each day for the impact they had in your life. Make peace with those who have offended you, and i can guarantee you a much happier, peaceful and stress free life.

  3. Hey
Relationship is a very diverse topic I.e family relationships, lovers relationship, employment relationship so much that we can keep metioning.Letting go is never easy and some take ages to get over your partner while some take hours to move one .This are two types of persons in relationship where do you stand ?
Once you establish that you will be you will be in an easier position to make better decision that will help you move on.For example I once date a lady for five years and on the sixth year we broke up it took a toll and roll on me , well lost a couple of pounds , lost my job, my sport life was dull well everything was living -dead. It took me a while to get over it but it was until I had to realise that she is gone and well life ain’t a bed of roses plus every rose has its thorns.
For this case I would like to say most is the bad deeds that a lover ,family members do unto you there’s always a reason for it so take that as a positive impact and life is full of lessons try learn the most out of every situation.

    1. Hello.
The matter of letting go is hard yes but not undoable!
Its good that you got over it. For some people they carry the pain with them throughout their lives, hidden deep down in their hearts, thinking they’ve let go but they haven’t.

The pain keeps getting triggered from time to time and it haunts them. Those kind people, need to find peace within themselves and be able to move forward.

Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts!

  4. Thank you so much for this eye opening information. I feel that this message was speaking to me. The past keeps haunting and ruining the present. Some of us have experienced pain from very painful past experiences but with time, we learn how to overcome it. Like you said, it is either we make peace with our past or let go. It is not easy, but it is possible. Some of us are hurting and in pain from friends and family among others. It hurts when one treats the other individual with love, respect and care, yet they are repaid with being assumed being ignored. This becomes frustrating for the individual and later on mutates to disappointment. In this case, one should choose to forgive and forget and if possible, reconcile. Forgiveness heals the soul and heart from pain. I agree with you, it is not easy but ” let not the fear of what could happen, make nothing happen.” We all go through various and hurting past experiences of different magnitudes but we can overcome them if we believe we can. And in as much as we are hurting we should not be quick to judge those who hurt us. Probably they are also hurting and might need our help.

God bless you and Responding to Life. Your topic has encouraged me.
