Often the past creeps in at the best moments of our lives to remind us of misery and pain. We constantly feel as if we took a step ahead, only to be drawn two steps back because of the situations we have been through days, months or even years ago. A while back in one of our posts, we talked about the law of karma and how your actions will definitely have an impact on you whether if  it’s in days, months or years to come. However, this is not the kind of past we are talking about.

The past we are addressing involves pain, heartache, disappointment, fear and absolute stress. The kind that you’d rather keep hidden deep inside your heart because the moment it is resurrected it eats up all your peace. This is the past which you shed tears about, the moment it crosses your mind. It could be triggered by a specific person,a situation a place or an item, and most of the time it’s something, somewhere or someone you can’t avoid or live without.

Got it? Good, because it’s about time you let go. The fact that you see no progress or you feel you keep getting setbacks in any aspect of your life, could be as a result of you holding on to your past so dearly without even realising it. Keeping it hidden deep down in your heart does not free you from it. Truth is, it only stays hidden until it’s triggered to resurface. Honestly, it’s easier said than done, but it’s not impossible.

There are two things you have to identify to be able to start the “healing” process.

  1. Identify the cause of pain. You can hide it from the world at large, but you can’t hide it from yourself. Soul-searching is important and you also have to realise that nobody else can do it, apart from yourself.
  2. You need to identify the item, person or the place that triggers, the above (if you’re lucky, it’s usually the same)

Once you identify the 2 points, you need to either make peace with it / them, or let go. For the majority, it’s either someone who broke our hearts and who we need to forgive. This could be your father, mother, sibling, lover, friend or anyone who you truly loved (still love) and cared for. For others it’s maybe a location that reminds you of a certain situation such as death, hurt, a scary situation and for the rest, it could be an item that takes you back to a moment in life where you were not in such a good position in life.

Whatever it may be, you are the one in pain, you are the one hurting only because you carry a load so heavy that it weighs you down from time to time. It’s about time you let go, it’s about time you made peace with your past and move forward. There’s tripping in life,but how you pick up yourself from the dust is what matters. Progress comes with focus, and for you to achieve that ascendency focus, surround yourself with positivity which comes at a price, by getting rid of your pain.Just don’t forget-What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, Respond to it and learn.

Throw away anything that brings negative memories in your life. Accept those who are gone, and keep living, thanking God each day for the impact they had in your life. Make peace with those who have offended you, and i can guarantee you a much happier, peaceful and stress free life.
