“Anger is the only thing you should put off until tomorrow. Stop and think before you speak, your words cut deeper than a sword ever will”

From personal experience, anger is a vice which plunges deeper than any other emotion in many of us. There are very few people who know how to manage their anger in a “proper” manner while the rest of us end up burning bridges and/or hurt our loved ones due to anger.

Anger is a strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure or hostility towards something or someone. Situations arise which trigger anger and for most of us, we react in certain ways, which lead to regret in the long run. As the writer writes: “Speak when you’re angry and you will make the best speech, you will ever regret” 

I can attest to the fact that, reactions based on anger has only created enemity, between myself and some of the people i love, and if you examine the root of the issue, it’s often something minor, but a short temper made it a major issue.
We let emotions such as anger overpower us, which leads to us building a wall of defense towards everyone who shows the slightest opposition towards what we say or do. We are always ready to “fight” back and ready to take each point of correction as negative. We never listen to understand but we listen to reply and defend ourselves. That’s the biggest problem most of us face in families, relationships, workplaces and friendships.

With anger, comes ego, pride and an “unteachable spirit”. With ego, one never wants to seem as the weak one, one never wants to let go but absolutely wants to have the last say! With pride, one never has the word “sorry” in their mouth and as a result an “unteachable spirit” develops. One can never be corrected, thus never learns. Beware of such people because a person that never learns is a person who is on a status quo, never moving forward, thus never gets wiser. It’s not a joke that such are considered fools, since they constantly feel the need to raise their voices but never their argument.

I know for most of us reading, we may have noticed certain traits of anger in us, and even tried to stop, pray, meditate, and all other remedies however it seems not to work. However, have you tried not saying anything whenever you feel someone has offended you? I don’t mean the silent treatment kind of silence but the humility kind of silence. It’s not every time and to every situation that you should respond and prove that you’re right (even if you are). Have you tried letting go of a situation rather than seeking vengeance or “tit for tat”? Try it…I can promise you it will work. No matter how much you feel the need to reply to that insult, to that person who “stepped on your toes”, stay quiet. You are not dumb for that. In Fact you are the bigger person.

Always keep in mind that, nothing you say/do, and no decision you make while you’re angry is ever sound. Thus keep calm and control yourself. Do not set limitations to your progress or even your blessings because of other people or tough situations. As a matter of fact, don’t ever let anyone or any situation have that much power over you, to trigger such vice in you.
