You cannot re-invent when you haven’t invented

“A tree never grows from the branches and down to the roots, it grows from it’s roots and up to the branches”

It’s been a while since I have written on my blog but you know, sometimes life happens. Sometimes you need to take a break to refuel and also, fill up what you have been dashing out consistently. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of restructuring and redefining your goals and figuring out why you started in the first place. It’s about reinventing yourself.

However, nothing can be reinvented if it hasn’t been invented yet. Take a moment and let that sink in. I have quite often seen on social media people posting quotes and posts about rediscovering themselves, reinventing, redefining and so many “REs” but so many of us haven’t started the process of discovering to be able to re-discover. Some of us haven’t found a purpose yet we seek to re-define. Have you ever sat down to think about the fact that you may be stack in a loop of trying to restart all the time but the problem isn’t restarting the problem is did you even start in the first place?

This may sound like a puzzle to you, but let me break it down. If phones were never invented, we wouldn’t have an iPhone, a Samsung, a Huawei and the rest. The invention of a phone started out with something big and “oddly” shaped, all for the purpose of communicating to an individual so far away, with no need of travelling to far distances to convey one’s messages. With time, they became smaller and more compatible, one didn’t have to stay at one place to use a phone. For the generation z, individuals reading this, yes, phones weren’t always mobile and not everyone owned one. Hence, it was a telephone (A system for transmitting voices over a distance using wire or radio, by converting acoustic vibrations to electrical signals).

The telephone had to be re-invented. There was need for a better version since there were a few constraints with the telephone. Same purpose, but with a different invention. The mobile phone (A telephone with access to a cellular radio system so it can be used over a wide area, without a physical connection to a network). It’s still a telephone with a new name and a new design but enhanced features. The mobile phone didn’t stop there, it went on to what we have today.

This is what reinvention means. You are on a path, but you need adjustments and changes to make your journey smoother, better and maybe even faster, however there is nothing you can change, if you do not start your journey. I always say a tree never grows from the branches and down to the roots, it grows from it’s roots and up to the branches. If you take a while to sit back and analyse why you still aren’t getting anywhere with re-defining, re-inventing and re-structuring, you may just realise that there is nothing to change.

You have to start from somewhere and work your way up! You cannot reinvent if you haven’t invented!
